Grade 8 Bush Camp

Gr 8 Camp 3

On Wednesday 23 January the Grade 8s went to Die Bos Avontuurkamp. This camp was part of their welcome and orientation to their new family at GLA. We asked some of the grade 8s to share their stories of what they experienced on their first GLA CAMP!

After hiking in from the camp gate we were exhausted and hot so we went for a swim in the river. Then we got into 5 groups and made potjiekos using chicken, rice, butternut, soup, and carrots. It was a competition and group 2 won! That night Ms Bos read Psalm 1 how we are to be like trees planted by the stream of water. We should get our energy, strength, and everything in Jesus because nothing else will satisfy our thirst. We also learned about choices in life.

That night we had to get to a light at the end of a dark road to dig up a tree using stuff we chose along the way. The next day Mrs. Venter told us about Hosea in the Bible and how God helps theus grow. Then we were tied together on a long rope and went on the Pipeline Hike. We had no idea that we would take 9 hours!

The hike was up and down 7 mountains, through a tunnel, and we were tied together for most of it! We cooked our lunch and swam at the waterfall. When we finally got back to the campsite we had to build a fire to braai wors. That night Mr. Uys talked about how enduring the crazy hike produced character and hope.

Gr 8 Camp 2

The next morning Mr. Bell and Mrs. LeRoux challenged us to put into action what we learned about God at camp. After packing up we had a bunch of tired Grade 8s that learned a lot from our time in “The Bush”.

We grew closer to God and got to know each other better through fun stuff, worship times, and conversations. When we got back to school Friday afternoon we went home - no period 5 or 6 for us!
