Mighty Men Weekend
This past weekend 9 learners, 2 dads as well as 5 teachers embarked on a 50km “stroll along the coast” from Saldinia Bay to Gamtoos! Well as you can think it was anything but a stroll, but nonetheless an amazing time together as men.
Besides the most beautiful scenery great hiking weather we encountered a number of wild animals, including: Dolphins, Otters, Seals, a wide variety of seabirds, craps, and Jellyfish.
It was great to get to know one another better. One of the highlights of the trip however, was to see the two dads join their sons for the adventure.
What an example for many dads to follow. Our journey took us over long sandy beaches, rocks, bush paths and even at times through thick reeds and bushes where none had gone before.
We enjoyed some fellowship on Friday evening braaing and playing together, before we continued on a night hike for another two hours to Sea View, where we slept “under the Stars” oops I meant to say spar !
The next morning we got up early to walk the remaining 30km. Besides an occasional “Are we there yet?” or “How long still?”, there were no complaints and everyone endured till the end.
At 15:00 on Saturday afternoon we all arrived at Gamtoos, ready to picked up. To sum to whole experience up:
WOW – What an amazing time. Strange enough the questions on Monday morning were: “When is our next hike?”! – Hopefully sooner than later!
