GLA’s Matric Sport Day

Matric Sport Day01

On Friday 16 August GLA’s grade 12 learners challenged the rest of the school, as well as the teachers, to a game of hockey, rugby and netball.

It was a fun filled day with lots of excitement and the showcasing of newly discovered talent. We want to thank everyone who took part and came to support the Matric Sport Day.

The junior netball team was the first team to take up the challenge against their Matric girls. Although they started well, they were beaten by the more experienced grade 12 girls. The grade 12 netball girls then played against the Matric boys. It was a fast passed game in which the boys finally won. At the end of the day the teachers’ netball team walked away as the champions, beating the boys’ netball team 16 - 10. Well done to the teachers!!!!

The hockey game between the learners and teachers was a tuff contest, but due to the teachers’ fitness and skills, they won the game 4-1.

Rugby was very exciting, and we saw a display of skill and good running by both the grade 12 boys and the school team. The grade 12’s advanced to the final with a narrow 3 - 2 win. Next the grade 12 boys played the very experienced teachers’ team for the rugby cup. The teachers were 4-2 in the lead at half time, but the grade 12 team was fought back with determination. The final score was 5 - 4 in their favour! Congratulations to the grade 12’s!
