GLA Atheltics Event

GLA AthleticsWhere in the world does a small private school, with no more than just over 200 learners, have the privilege to have their athletics meeting at one of the best tracks in the country? On Wednesday 1st of February, Global Leadership Academy left Jeffreys Bay to enjoy a fun filled sports day at the NMMU Athletics Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

A week prior to our departure the entire School was devided into three colour groups to compete against each other. High JumpThese groups equipped themselves with war cries and decided on their attire for the BIG DAY. The result was awesome.
There where the Orange Tigers, who roared us away, their spirits where high as they gave their best to encourage their athletes. No wonder they won the price for best team spirit.
Then there where the Red Pirates, dressed in red pirates clothes fierce and fearless they chalenged the other groups both on and off the track.
And then finally but definitely not last, the winning team of the day, the Yellow Bananas, who impressed us with their athletic skills. If we didn’t know any better one would think they left some peels on the tracks for the other teams to slip on.

Back to the Athletics day!
After a ferocious battle of war cries, the competion on the track finally began. The items learners participated in where: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 110m/400m Hurdles, 400m  realy, Long jump, High jump, Shot put, Javalon, and Discus. Not only did our learners participate in the mentioned items, but they broke many records that were set the previous year.

The teachers with the help of Global Challenge students worked as officials; taking times, measuring, resetting poles raking and coaching. Thanks to Mr Du Plessis and Ms Van Es We all enjoyed a well organized event.

As for the weather, the sun shined down on us for most of the morning, with a few showers early afternoon. All in all it was a very successful day, which for sure has been and most probably will be one of the highlights of the year.
